About

Jayme Jun is a Trans Asian-American interdisciplinary artist currently based in Chicago, IL with a BFA from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. Throughout his undergraduate studies Jun transitioned from a strong traditional painting background into primarily working with conceptual sculpture and performance, film, and writing. Currently he develops and maintains work across various platforms and utilizes his multi-media approach to compliment his work thematically.

Jayme often attempts to examine the histories, cultural relationships, and interactions of Asian Americans and other minorities in the west while promoting intersectional solidarity and community building. This is informed by his education within the social sciences and humanities regarding race, sexuality, gender, and world history in art alongside inspirations and frequent references to Black radical feminist scholars such as the River Combahee Collective and other liberative schools of thought.

Personal Statement

Jayme was born in China and then adopted into a single-parent household and raised from infant hood in the south-side of Atlanta, GA. As a queer Non-Black person of color raised within a predominantly Black community alongside other minority groups, Jayme has a unique worldview which blends itself into all facets of his creativity and social work.

It is this unconventional upbringing being situated at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities and belongs to multiple disenfranchised cultural groups that catalyzed his natural knack for storytelling and drive to uplift and shine a light on the history, voices, and cultures of those who are often disregarded or unheard due to oppression and lack of opportunity.
